BIG WORKS

STONE'S THROW TREE
stoneware, porcelain, wood, wire
9'x48"x36"

The design for this 9 ft ceramic tree actually began as a tree branch, with the purpose of supporting the sculpture of an opossum . Because of the layout and design of the stonework, I felt it was necessary to create a visual anchor on the other side of the fireplaces and arching stonework. The final design decision was made when I saw the painting that would hang next to the oppossum. The painting was of an old tree next to a stone springhouse, all completed, except for the tree trunk!I made this in 24 major pieces and many smaller ones, including the lichen and mushrooms.

TREE OF LIFE
quadeclay, wood, wire
26'x16'x18'

This 26 foot tree was created as the base for a display of endangered animal species. The design company decorated the tree, floor area and animals for each season of the year.

Space was made inside the sculpture, to house the compressor and airlines that ran throughout the branches to animate the animals.

This tree was made in 6 seperate pieces with a homemade "Quadeclay" and put together around the post for anchoring and attachment.

WATER: A PRECIOUS RESOURCE
ceramic, fiberglass 7'x9'x42"

This sculpture was created for the National Geographic Society Exhibit at Explorer's Hall in Washington DC.

The enviornmental sculpture was created in stoneware clay  for the rocks and branches and fibreglass resign for the 6 recirculating water pools.

My biggest challange was to disguise the water drain, so the pranksters could not plug it up!
